Why reactions

Engagement with a tone attached

You pick the reaction

Each reaction is its own option, so the order delivers the one you selected rather than a mix. The choice is part of the message the post sends.

More expressive than a like

A row of Love or Haha tells a visitor how people felt, not just that they responded. On posts meant to entertain or celebrate, that reads more naturally than likes alone.

Live reactions too

Reactions can be delivered onto a running broadcast as well as an ordinary post. Those are ordered against the live video while it is still streaming.

Use cases

When to pick reactions over likes

Celebration posts

An anniversary, a launch, a milestone. Love fits these in a way a plain like does not, and the difference is visible in the summary row.

Humour and memes

Haha is the reaction people actually leave on something funny. A funny post collecting only likes reads as though the joke did not land.

Announcements with weight

Wow and Care suit news that is meant to be surprising or sympathetic. Matching the reaction to the content is what stops it looking automated.

Live broadcasts

Reactions floating up during a stream are part of how a live video looks attended. These are ordered while the broadcast is running.

Guide

How Facebook reactions work

Facebook offers seven reactions: Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sad, Angry and Care. They all count as engagement, but the post displays which ones were used, so the mix is visible to anyone reading.

Why the choice matters

The summary row under a post shows the most-used reactions as small icons. A product launch topped with Love reads as enthusiasm. The same post topped with Angry reads as a complaint thread, whatever the comments say.

Because each reaction is ordered separately here, this is a decision you make rather than something left to chance. Pick the one a genuine reader would have left.

Mixing reactions

Real posts rarely collect one reaction and nothing else. If you want a mix, place more than one order on the same post with different reactions and different quantities, weighted toward the one that fits best.

A heavy majority of one reaction with a scattering of others is closer to how an ordinary post looks than a single clean block.

Reactions on live video

Live reactions are a separate product because they behave differently. They are delivered onto a broadcast while it runs, and they stop when the stream does.

That means the stream has to be live at the moment you order, and ending it early leaves the rest of the order undeliverable.

Getting the link right

Open the post and copy its own link rather than the page URL, then check it loads for someone who is not signed in. A post restricted to friends cannot receive delivery.
