The ratio is your average likes per post divided by your follower count, times 100. It is the simplest public engagement signal: unlike a full engagement rate it ignores comments, saves, and shares, so it can be computed for any account from what is visible on the profile.
For a stable number, average the likes on your last 10 to 20 posts and skip boosted posts and extreme outliers. A single viral post can double a small account's ratio and tell you nothing about its baseline.
The context bands (under 1% low, 1% to 3% typical, 3% to 6% good, above 6% excellent) align with published engagement benchmark ranges. Because this ratio counts likes only, an account's full engagement rate will read slightly higher than this ratio on the same posts.
Percentage ratios fall as accounts grow: bigger audiences contain more casual followers. Compare your ratio against accounts of similar size in your niche, not against a global number, and track your own trend over time; the direction matters more than the level.
