The calculator uses the follower-based formula: engagement rate = (average likes + comments + shares per video) / followers x 100. Average your last 10 to 20 videos; TikTok's distribution is spiky, so a bigger sample matters more here than on any other platform.
Your result is rated against published TikTok benchmark bands: under 3% reads low for TikTok, roughly 3% to 8% covers the average-to-solid range, and above 8% is strong, with top creators exceeding 15%. TikTok's For You distribution makes these numbers much higher than Instagram or X, so never compare rates across platforms.
These bands come from public industry benchmark reports, not from our own measurements. TikTok rates also swing hard by niche and video format, so treat the rating as a directional signal rather than a grade.
Because TikTok reach is driven by the For You page rather than your follower graph, a follower-based rate can exceed 100% on viral videos. Views-based engagement (engagements divided by views) is the complementary metric brands often ask for; you can compute it the same way using views instead of followers.
