How the X (Twitter) engagement rate is calculated

The calculator uses the follower-based formula: engagement rate = (average likes + replies + reposts per post) / followers x 100. Average your last 20 or more posts; X output is high-volume and per-post variance is large, so a bigger sample gives a steadier number.

Your result is rated against published X benchmark bands, and they are far lower than other platforms: around 0.05% of followers engaging is typical, 0.1% is good, and above 0.3% is excellent. A rate that would be catastrophic on TikTok is strong on X, so never compare across platforms.

These bands come from public industry benchmark reports, not from our own measurements. Text-first feeds engage differently than visual feeds: posts scroll past quickly, and most impressions on X come from non-followers via search, trends, and the For You tab.

Reposts count in the formula because they are X's core distribution mechanic: a repost puts your post in front of someone else's followers. Quote posts and bookmarks are additional signals X surfaces, but they are not consistently visible per post, so the standard public formula leaves them out.
